It is, and it happens in nature. Thre are many stories of birds getting drunk by eating apples that had started to ferment. Grapes will ferment on the ground as they develop with a yeast on their skins, the white bloom. However in most countries it would not be warm enough for long enough for serious brewing to be commercially viable

Yeast respire normally when in an oxygen rich environment. Just like humans, they produce carbon dioxide as a by product of breathing. Which makes bread rise in baking. When yeast are in an environ where there is no oxygen they produce acohol instead of CO2. In humans we produce lactic acid in the muscles, thats why your legs get sore when you are running etc..... So there are two respiration processes for most organisms, the anaerobic option is usually less beneficial and potentially lethal in the long run.

It is possible,fermentation is usually carried out in a vessel to prevent contamination from flies etc.

im not sure if you can or cant but id have to say because whatever is being fermented would go off in the air
