I am a man, and married for 7 years and live in USA. I dated a lot (including platonic relationship with almost every one, except my married wife before marriage).

Yes, my marriage was arranged because all my datings were unsuccessful. Sometime I was rejected, sometimes I dumped. them.

I don't feel very proud of what I did in my young age but at least listen to my 'Mother' who arranged my marriage by judging my wife's family background (which I never cared while dated). Of course, I dated her too for one year before I marry her. Knowing each other is extremely important (if he/she is you type). Is things does not work very well, don’t go for the marriage, whether arranged or chosen. Remember, ‘Divorce’ is a failure to adjust with other personality. Better, be careful.

Be it an arranged or a love marriage, the key point is getting to know each other on a one-to-one basis....without that you`ll never be able to guage the compatibility and each others` likes or dislikes.....the key factor that needs to be looked for in a long-term relationship is the sustainability and not the momentary pleasures, and it can only be sustainable if there is a proper understanding between the two and it takes time, effort and many interactions to build that understanding.......
Love marriage, works out on that account many times, by itself because of its very nature, though you find many love marriages also crumbling because the very foundations were wrong - things like religion, tastes, diet preferences, opinions, age differences etc. which were ignored in favour of the physical attraction earlier, sooner or later start catching up and create conflicts....
Arranged marriage sorts itself out on these counts, if you are the traditional kind but I would still prefer a longish courtship period - can be with engagement or without engagement, depending on the partners` choices - wherein the same objective is fulfilled. If the chemistry doesn`t seem to be working, then the two partners can decide whether they would like to work to resolve those irritants or if they find it irreconcilable then take a call.......A longish courtship period gives you the time to iron out these details, if both the partners are committed to it.....

Love.......because if it's not love then someone is never happy and is most likely to stray from the marriage, not be respectful, not treat the other as they deserve to be treated. They will hold a grudge against the other person for holding them back from the one they truly love.
