Is it a fashion faux pas to wear a slip with nothing over it, just as a dress?

Well some slips are heavy enough that you can't see through them...

YES. That is totally ridiculous. They were made to wear under dresses, skirts, etc. especially see thru ones.

It depends really, like if you get a really beautiful one that's silk with a lace trim in a funky colour and its not see through then I don't see any harm in it. Maybe if it's a quite short slip you could wear it over a pair of jeans like a long top or something? That would look cool.

there are dresses made to look like pretty slips. my stepdaughter wore one for a play at school. it was beautiful!

if it's made for that purpose , then, no faux pas
if it's from the panty department at sears , then , probably , yes. big faux pas.

I have seen slips worn alone. I personally don't like the look, but hey, some dresses/tops I have seen are move revealing.

I have done that before. I was a little self-conscious, but all in all, I definately felt very sexy when every man's eye was on me!

Ya... kinda tacky. Unless it is a colored slip, because there are dresses out there that are that material... idk, i guess i would have to see the slip.

Yes, it is a mistake. Women will laugh at you; men will grab at you.
