The problem I have in America, is that social settings tend to cater to the loudest, most obnoxious person who typically dictates the direction of the conversations, the mood of the group, and the opinions of like-minded individuals. When these people are challenged, they vindicate thier actions by saying they were "just joking," but I believe that this "joking" actually directs or sways everyone's opinion if the presentation is effective enough. I thought this kind of crap ended in high school! When do we all become adults? Is this typical of only certain social classes?

Your thoughts touch onto an interesting problem in American social life. No society can exist on pure, unfettered pluralism. Here, we have the so called "cultural wars," with one side claiming moral absolutism and the other a more broad, pluralistic approach. I believe that this stentorian creatures are one of the logical end results to this interesting dialectic. They are sort of like little mini-fascists within whatever serves as dialog anymore. Whether this takes place within the maelstrom of pure subjectivity or amidst those many who each claim moral absolutism, the loud are vying for cultural control, and hence the dominance that comes with such a happenstance. Aside from this phenomena, I would have to name my own personal distaste as the mass commercialization of EVERYTHING, making even the once serious trite and superfluous.

Unfortunately, this behaviour isn't restricted to Americans. I believe people act this way because they are pathetically insecure and feel threatened by intelligence and logic - because intelligence and logic will inevitably prove they are full of it. They fear confrontation, again, because they fear their ignorance will be exposed, and thus are quick to back down from their abrasive opinions with defensive statements like, "I was ONLY joking, dude. Why are YOU so uptight?!" This also externalizes their actions and detracts from any personal responsibilities they might have to take for running off at the mouth. It makes the meeker individual the bad guy (or girl) because that person "overreacted" to the statements.
Why is it that these people seem to become our leaders and decision-makers? I don't know the answer to that.

I think you are really on to something. I think it is seen in the media and politics. Its like a hate fest.
My one of my biggest gripes is how unfair the US system is on advantages for certain groups. I would love a even playing field. There are so many advantages tax and otherwise to being educated and rich. If you start digging into the policies we would be shocked. Folks really have a unfair advantage. And I try to use everyone of them and am pretty successful at doing so. But I am at least aware!

AS an american you have the freedom of speech if you dont like how some thing works you need to fight to change it you can not sit in a corner wishing it would change . Would you rather have a single person and every one has to think the same as them or they die? If your thoughts cased your family to be killed and your self to be on the run? Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing Use it.

I just hate society in general !
Everyone wants things to be their way or no way.
We have lost all of the freedom in this country, being there are laws regulations, codes, taxes, licenses, permits, registrations etc, on everything and anything you can think of.
You don't even own your home...
When you pay it off you think you own it?
NO WAY, don't pay the taxes on it and what happens?
Kiss it good by.
The only one that can take it is the one that owns it.
That is usually the township or county.
You still pay them to live in your home.
That is what society has given you.

opportunistic behavior. the way that some people use people to their advantage without regard to a person's feelings. the "art" of advancing one's own agenda at the cost of another's. i am constantly shocked by the total lack of compassion and conscience in today's society.
