I think the referee didn't think that Heinze was the last man, as there was another Argentina player further down. However he would never have reached Fonseca.

There was a sniff of scandal in 2002. Many people thought the referees gave Korea a helping hand.
Last night the Swede was sent off for two non bookable offences. The ref looked delighted almost as if he had pleased his FIFA masters.
FIFA wants the Germans to stay in and a couple of South Americans to keep domestic and world interest. I predict NO red cards for Germany, Brazil or Argentina,
On the other hand they would be glad to remove the uncertainty of England fans, so expect no favours from the offcials.

I agree with you and was surprised myself that Heinze got only a yellow card instead of the red.
But the World Cup referees don't have an easy task. They have no longer a lot of discretion when it comes to decisions, and the ruling committees of FIFA keep them on a tight leash. So, strictly speaking, a serious foul requires a yellow card. That's what the referee did. Without the strict FIFA rules, he might have followed his own judgement and shown Heinze the red card.

in my opinion i think of i might stink as a ref. Many plp criticize refs, yet many forget that refs dont have the skill to computer screen the on the spot replys like the followers does. SO we cant blame the refs continually in the event that they cut back to rubble one call.

For the same reason France won in 1998...I mean where was France in 1990? 1994? 2002? and now in 2006? France advanced this year because of a WEAK group (same reason they won their group outright in 1998)...not because they were worth spit..players for Brasil and several others were paid to throw the game...IM NOT SAYING THE WHOLE TEAMS WERE PAID OFF..that is too obvious...but Leonardo's comportment during that game was why Dunga was pissed off and the reason why Brasilian players were fighting among themselves...NOT because they were losing...but because the players were split between those who were paid off and were not trying and those who had a genuine interest in winning..

are u off your head?
if u wasn t on your side, u'd have noticed that referee cancelled the goal Argentina scored at the end of the second half even if it was abosolutely regular...
... if it hadn t been so, Argentina would have won before the extra time
pay attention: I'm italian and root for Italy

Because the rule says that it is red only if he is the last man, and the last man was Roberto Ayala. END OF THE DISCUSSION.
