A pashmina is a type of goat endemic to Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh regions of India. Its fleece has been used for thousands of years to make high-quality shawls that also bear the same name.Pashmina is simply "cashmere." The name is more appropriate, corresponding to a local term for wool, while cashmere reflects the colonialist perspective -- the [noted] fabric of Kashmir

The stole (a liturgical vestment of various Christian denominations) is an embroidered band of cloth, formerly usually of silk, about two and one-half to three metres long and seven to ten centimetres wide, whose ends are usually broadened out.

If you check the dictionary for a defintion of a stole, you'll get this:
"A woman's long scarf of cloth or fur worn about the shoulders." Technically Pashmina's could be classed as stoles, however, you can wear them in many different ways so they are more than stoles. Pashmina describes the type of wool used, but I think they are more like big scarves. When I see the word stole I think of old school Hollywood stars wearing fur stoles around their necks!

STOLE = SHAWL = PASHMINA

Stole is an old fashioned word.

Then came 'shawl'.

Pashmina is simply a 'posh' word for the others, and the modern word.

Next time the fashion round it will probably be called something else.

i think they're more or less the same. A pashmina is made from a very fine goats wool, and i think a stole can be made from anything.
