Any type of decent wireless connection has a safety feature that creates what is called a subnet mask that randomly selects one to hide your true IP.. so that others can not easily borrow/steal your connection for their personal use .. I use a Belkin 11Mbps wireless LAN.. never had a problem with it..
Good Luck :)

Can you provide more details please. What is the device you are trying to connect?
Anyways, you can check the wiring. If its a computer, then you can check the IP Address by Start -> Run -> cmd and click OK.

Then on the command prompt, type IPCONFIG and press the Enter Key. This should display the IP address.
