I liked it and think it is much better and more entertaining than most of the animated movies that have come out from other studios and is, so far, the best film I've seen this summer. But, I would have to say it was one of the lesser efforts by Pixar. Not because of the animation (they are too good of a studio to do anything less than 4 star animation) but because of the story. The story is their least original tale (it was so much like "Doc Hollywood" that I was surprised they just didn't get Michael J. Fox to do the voice of Lightning McQueen) and the middle part dragged on a bit too long. It also lacked the wonder of their best efforts ("The Incredibles", "Toy Story" and "Finding Nemo").

This is not to say it was a bad movie. Not by any means. As I said, the animation was superb, it was great hearing Paul Newman again (he was perfectly cast as the Hudson Hornet) and the ending was very moving. It was that, after their previous films, Pixar has set a very high standard for themselves and they didn't quite make it. It's the equivalent of a straight-A student bringing home a B+. Good but you know he's capable of much more.

My ex-wife's brother-in-law worked for a company in Boston ..that was eventually bought out by Pixar/Disney in the mid 1990's.. You would not believe how many hours of computer programming and animation go into these types of movies.. it took something like 20-25 people working 12 hour days for 6 or more months to create and put together (a simple by today's standard) movie like Toy Story.. but the outcome is worth all the effort for sure. Great movie!

I heard it was ok but not one of pixars best efforts. Maybe because the characters are too mechanical. It's easier to give a cute animal a personality.
