My Dear Friend,
If your Mail service provider you pop & smtp access for your email address then you get your web mail in to offline email client like MS Outlook, Outlook express, thunderbird, etc...
For Yahoo Mail, You must register your Yahoo mail serive in Yahoo Delivers service. If you are in outside India then Yahoo charge $ 19.90 / year (In India Yahoo mail POP access is free).
If you want Free POP access then you will go with Gmail service. Gmail provide free pop & smtp acess everybody.
Yahoo Mail Outlook setting is bellow:
POP3: pop.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
For Gmail you can just click "setting" in your gmail account & go to pop access.
use server authorisation for smtp.
I think this information is very for you.
If you still having more information then click on my name in yahoo answer & send me message.
Good luck!!!!!!!

For the yahoo free mail you must have a special program otherwise you have to have the paid yahoo Plus account. If you want to install a program for the free email account go to http://www.ypopsemail.com/ and install Ypops. Note it won't work with the Beta version of yahoo email must be the old version. If you got the beta switch back to old version

pop means post office protocol, think of a post office box, where you get your mail delivered
smtp is for sending mail, its the server that sends your mail
these two can occasionally look quite diff
just get the settings from your isp
