No classics please. Somehow, I can never digest those. Almost everything else will do- medical thriller, suspence (not Agatha Christie, I dont like her books), comedy, science fiction, even fantasy will do- I liked harry potter and artemis fowl.

The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Deception Point, Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, if you like thrillers.

Devil wears Prada , Nannie Diaries, I don't Know How She Does it (Allison Pearson), Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Ya Ya Sisterhood if you like Chick Lit

I love Nelson Demille. In particular would recommend Gold Coast (hilarious) and The Charm School (thriller).

Also, I loved The Time Traveler's Wife. It was so unusual.

Those should all be fun & easy to read. Hope that's helpful.

I am sorry, but I can't please you entirely with my suggestion. You said "No classics please", but then again I am suggesting that you should read one. For a few reasons:

1. You must overcome your own prejudice against the classics. Not all classics are hard to digest. And more, you may never forget a classic, while a best-seller will only last as long as you are reading it, if anything.

2. This one is a Brazilian classic (actually I am from Brazil, so it's only natural that I should promote him), but in a wide sense he is also universal. When you read this author, you'll probably find yourself reading between the lines, too, if you see what I mean. You will broaden your vision and knowledge.

3. You may not understand every passage, since this is a translation of a book from a previous century (more than 100 years ago) and a faraway culture, but I don't think you will ever be bored. The chapters are short and full of wit. Unless I am wrong, you won't be able to stop reading it.

So write it down: The title is Dom Casmurro, and the author's name is Machado de Assis. You can buy it from Amazon.

Enjoy and send me a note proving or disproving me.

Barbara Kingsolver's "The Poisonwood Bible". I read it over two years ago and still think about it nearly every day.

I'm not crazy about many classics either, but I try to read a few each year. Some are surprisingly captivating. Among those I've recently read, "To Kill a Mockingbird' was great, "Catcher in the Rye" left me wondering why it's considered a classic. If you can get past the first chapter or two of Dickens' novels, they are all good. "Great Expectations" is a personal favorite. Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy wrote really good romances (and I generally HATE romance novels). Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre are also excellent in spite of being romance novels.

The Martian Chronicles-Ray Bradbury
Dune, Children Of Dune, Dune Messiah, God Emperor Of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse Dune-Frank Herbert.
That should keep you busy for a while as they are all great books. Right now I am reading A Soldier's Story by Omar Bradley, who was the commander of ground forces during the Normandy invasion, but it's pretty dry at times. Also for non-fiction I'd recommend Crusade In Europe by Dwight D Eisenhower, and The Gathering Storm by Winston Churchill.

Try "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett, or any of his Discworld novels, but start at that one.

Try "A Town Like Alice" by Nevil Shute.

Try "Conspiracy of Fire" by Michael T Sanders.
