Actually, just speaking from a purely historical perspective, there is nothing all that unusual about anything George Bush does or has done.
Throughout the course of human history, up until the most recent times, war has been the commonest and fairly well accepted form of any kind of attempt at world change.
Alexander used war only as a means to spread Macedonian and his own glory. There was no particular philanthropic impulse to his expeditions, and European kings used war as a means to seize rival nations holdings, enforce some kind of religious uniformity, etc. etc. etc.
Tribal peoples have gone to war constantly for no other reason than a kind of base predatory antagonism.
In the early history of Islam, war was a means of spreading a kind of cultural hegemony throughout the middle east and much of Europe.
Russian Tzars used war for years as a way to secure the ever important ice free port. Something that Russia was forever seeking throughout her history.
Chinese revolutionaries, following the Second World War, used war as a means to confirm and entrench their particular philosophy of government and culture.
The list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on . . .
Modern Americans, and indeed modern people generally are so settled into a convenient soft passive kind of way of living and thinking that it seems like just the clearest madness to approach the world with the kinds of methods and attitudes reflected in the Bush administration.
I can tell you as a person of education and credentials, that there is certainly nothing that unusual from a historical perspective about anything going on with the current administration. If anything the kinds of attitudes manifested in a question like this are the exception throughout history.
These are rare and unfamiliar kinds of ideas, in their softness, passivity, detachment, etc.
Just consider the Civil War. However we may eulogize Lincoln today, the war was very unpopular as it progressed because the tens of thousands upon tens of thousands of Union soldiers that were dying for a cause that many people deemed irrelevant to their own lives.
There was considerable ill feeling toward Ulysses S. Grant during the war, because of his willingness to commit large numbers of troops, and therefore large numbers of casualties to slow, tedious, plodding offensives whereby thousands of young men were dying each month as Grant slowly bled the South to death.

Anyone can be an armchair quarterback but not everyone can lead the team. As for all you who think he is completely responsible it takes majority vote in congress to declare a war. I am starting to think nobody payed any attention in government classes which is sad because most of you are our future leaders what a sad sad state our country will be. THE WEAK SHALL INHERIT NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
