Sleepers: If it's based on a true story, how come he wasn't afraid to admit that it was true ? (author)

Is it cuz once you've been found guilty that you can't be found gulity again ? Or do you think that this movie didn't really happen IRL ? cuz the priest lied.

Once they were acquitted for the murder they couldn't be tried again. However, there are serious doubts as to whether or not the story is true.
