Alright, here we go again: Silver Surfer will win this battle because although strong, Superman's powers unlike that of the Surfer’s aren't limitless. Both Peter David and Ron Lim who have both written Sups’ and Surfer stories stated that Surfer would win during the Marvel v. DC saga.
Surfer's powers are governed by the entire essence of the Marvel universe's power cosmic force, not to mention the fact that as long as Galactis is alive the Surfer is endowed with the cosmic powers which he possesses. And can then channel his abilities to hone and reflect massive amounts of energy, just as Galactis does. Although Superman is pretty darn strong, he has two known weaknesses – Magic and Kryptonite. While in the Surfer’s case: the only understood weakness is that if the Marvel universe ceases to exist, then he looses his abilities. Enough said.
Great fight, but Silver Surfer wins every time the bout is posed.
Peace.

Having paged through all of the arguments so far, I'm going with the majority opinion on this. What's interesting about this fight is that Superman and the Surfer are not only two incredibly powerful beings, but also two genuinely nice guys. So I could see both of them pulling their punches a little. But in the end, the Silver Surfer just has more to draw on.

Hmm...now this is interesting.
Superman's Kryptonian metabolism allows him to absorb solar energy, which is what gives him the impressive range of super powers we all know about.
The Silver Surfer is a Zenn-Laian, who was granted phenomenal cosmis powers by my all time favorite Marvel cosmic entity, the mighty Galactus.
If Silver Surfer's powers even remotely act like solar energy then Superman could conceivably absorb them. This would give the man in blue a huge edge. But, the Surfer might be able to sense that Superman is absorbing solar energy and find some way to cut him off from his power, rendering him helpless.
I'd give the edge to the Surfer, but not by much.

I love em both, but I'm really deep down a silver surfer fan. And overall, with the power cosmic, I'd say that Mr. Norrin Radd would kick Clark Kent's butt all over the cosmos.
I mean, hey, the surfer has the power cosmic, he can pretty much do anything with it, including the creation of different energies, so he could create the effects of Kryptonite fairly easily and then just tear into superman.
That's my 2 cents.

Don't get me wrong, I love Supes but he's just not the all powerfull badass that everyone make him out to be. Silver Surfer all the way! Besides, what happens if their fight takes them into a solar system with a red sun? It's not even a fair fight if you ask me.

Toss up and Superman doesn't get his powers from the sun. He has them because we a have a yellow sun. A red sun, like Krypton had, took away his powers.

Silver Surfer, there's just something about him that seems that he could actually defeat Superman.

doesn't superman's powers come from himself?, because his race of people are different from humans or something....but anyways silversurfer because he is a cosmic entity....beyond the powers of regular people like superman.
