Which genre of music do you like better between grunge or the hair metal bands of the 80's? I personally like the hair metal bands of the 80's cause the music is more fun and they remind me of the happier times of my life and how good the music was, I've noticed that music was starting to become more serious and depressing during the grunge era and I somewhat gave up on watching MTV cause I was losing interest in the music cause it'd gotten too depressing with me, with the hair metal bands they were alot of fun to watch and it was about the good times, I think that it's more fun listening to the hair metal bands than it is listening to the grunge bands.

Hair Bands! They got into the whole "sex drugs and rock and roll" thing, which I prefer to the depressing scene of grunge. Hair bands were more fun.

Making depression and not caring 'cool' was awful for the people sucked up into it and our society as a whole. Thankfully this is slowly changing. The fact that Kurt Cobain is made out to be some kind of hero is an utter joke.

Yes they looked odd, but I feel on average they had more talent than grunge artists. Grunge just doesn't seem that creative to me. And as a guitarist myself, I really missed the guitar solo.

Now, I prefer other types of rock and metal, but for the question, Hair Metal ftw!

Hair metal without a doubt, I like music with a good guitar solo and I also like music that is about the good times, girls and having fun, I am not a grunge fan at all and look what happened to the music ever since grunge came along, they've got in the nu-metal garbage along with some of the boring alternative rock bands, I'm so glad that grunge didn't last very long and the hair metal bands are getting more recognition than they did 10 years ago.

I vote for the Hair Metal bands. They were about having fun and not about faking depression to get attention, or acting "angry" that they have millions of dollars and fans like the grunge bands. I am glad that a lot of them are still making music and doing shows, even if it is only in the clubs.

easily, hair metallic bands killed hair metallic bands. Grunge took earnings of the prospect to recent a sparkling sound. Timing is each thing! whilst the 80's metallic scene started, it grew to become into Van Halen, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Ozzy, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and the Scorpions. What got here approximately after 1986, (apart from weapons N Roses and Metallica), is all of those bands began to supply clones of themselves which killed the scene. (i.e. extreme, Poison, White Lion, Winger, Warrant, Cinderella, swifter tom cat, Kix, The Bulletboys, etc.) The puzzling rock/hair band scene thrived from 1980-1991. Grunge purely lasted from 1991-1995 till now they have been complete. If something, the hair band scene made a lot extra of an effect musically for an prolonged time than grunge. additionally, bear in mind that on the peak of the Grunge scene, there have been nonetheless 80's bands that have been killing Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains in revenues. ( Van Halen, Aerosmith, weapons N Roses, Metallica are a number of them.) If something, that's the 80's hair bands that could desire to return back and take over the scene. Say what you want approximately their hair, make-up, and clothers, yet whilst it got here to the appropriate guitar gamers and correct drummers, they fullyyt got here out of the 80's.

I agree with the person above me, and her answer. She forgot to meantion that hair metal bands were all about money, fame and chicks. Grunge has really something to say, even though I'm not so excited about that genre of music. Just listen to Garden by Pearl Jam...

I prefer real rock, and of course dead metal. Think Sepultura (with Max Cavalera as a lider) was the best, and as for rock - deffinetly Led Zeppelin.

Ok here's the deal.

Hair Metal (wide term really, but I know what your gettin' at) was killed by grunge.

Iron Maiden, Skid Row and the MIGHTY Guns N' Roses COULD all be put in the Hair Metal category, and when funny ol' Kurt Cobain came along in his ripped cardigans injecting heroin and throwing cakes at launch partys (Nevermind album launch party - nice one...) glam rock and hair metal was destroyed. The guitar solo, and the use of melodic and harmonic minor scales especially was over-ridden by the deadly power chord (5th chord), which is the root of all evil.

So grunge became the mainstream, which is ironic because it was supposed to be underground. If you listen to In Utero by Nirvana, you'll want to drink Pennyroyal Tea and slowly push needles into your elbow. If you listen to Youth Gone Wild by Skid Row, or Appetite For Destruction by GnR, you'll be dancin round the room playin' air guitar.

Nuff said.
