Subduction of tectonic plates, names the Pacific and Asian plates. Also, they are in a very volcanic area (due to the plate tectonics) and may be formed by volcanic flows. It must be one or the other. If I knew about the types of soil in the Phillipines, I would be able to tell you. i am inclined to say they are volcanic in origin.

there are many legends.. like this giant who kept throwing soil.. and eventually the soil became philippines.. and then you also have the volcanoes..
