I remember when the book "Hannibal" came out and I was disappointed because I felt that it was more of a sequel to the movie instead of the book especially because I had read the "Silence of the Lambs" a few weeks before "Hannibal" came out. But I was just reading the synopsis of "Hannibal" at wikipedia and there was no mention of this at all. So I am left to wonder if I was wrong about this.

I remember when the book "Hannibal" came out and I was disappointed because I felt that it was more of a sequel to the movie instead of the book (with Thomas Harris referencing events and names from the movie "The Silence of the Lambs) especially because I had read the "Silence of the Lambs" a few weeks before "Hannibal" came out. But I was just reading the synopsis of "Hannibal" at wikipedia and there was no mention of this at all. So I am left to wonder if I was wrong about this.

I think you're asking if Thomas Harris based the book 'Hannibal' on the movie or the book, 'The Silence of the Lambs'.

I believe I read an interview from Harris some years back, where he said he was writing based on his book. And that he felt the movie followed his novel closely enough, that movie fans wouldn't noticed the difference.

Red Dragon was the first "Hannibal" book. It was followed a few years later by Silence of the Lambs and then many years later by Hannibal. The movies were made out of order (Red Dragon came out last). They are all great books. Red Dragon was possibly my favorite -Hannibal was my least favorite.

I'm not sure, either, but I will say that the movie pales in comparison to the book.
