Mexicans have made major contributions to the US Military...and still doing so... :)

Yes, I'm very aware other minorities have made contributions as well. I'm simply pointing out a group that I belong to. I'm spreading the word per say... And it is not "flawed." This info is accurate and it came from my Mexican-American studies professor, who has a PHd and knows his stuff. :)

Also, I specifically said WWII.

He is a credible source. Why would he give out faulty information? That makes no sense.

I'm sure you've never taught a Mexican-American studies class because otherwise you would know. :)

The highest decorated group of Americans were Japanese who were INTERNED, and yet they served their country well.

And what about the Navajo Indians who were code talkers during WWII?

Plenty of minorities who contributed to WWII and other wars. What's your point?

I am sorry, but statistics used in that manner to support a conclusion of "major" contributions is flawed.

Example:

You have 10 Martians working on the Moon and one builds a building. Your percent in coorelation is 10%.

You have 100 folks from Venus working on the Moon and 6 build buildings. Your percent is 6%.

By your way of thinking the Martians contributed MORE - After all they contributed 10% and the Venusians only 6%.

BUT.... the Martians only build one building and the folks from Venus build 6... how is the Martian contribution Greater?

Now I am not saying Mexican-Americans have not made a number of contributions to the US Military...just dont use flawed logic to support your claim. Many other races, ethic groups, etc. have made huge differences in the history of Amercia and the US military.

And the statistic you are trying to quote (I assume) is this one.....

"Out of a total of 3,427 Congressional Medals of Honor granted by the U.S. Congress, 38 have been awarded to citizens of Hispanic ancestry, making Latinos the largest single ethnic group, in proportion to the number who served, to earn this prestigious award. "

So we are talking 38 out of 3,427.

Oh, yes... and I had read the majority of those 38 were issued to people from Puerto Rico - not Mexico. If you will read the quote it says "Latinos", NOT Mexican-Americans.

EDITTED: Well, you need to ask your professor about his source and have him show it you. Just because he has a degree and teaches does NOT mean he is infallible or perhaps you misunderstood him. I would suggest printing out the above quote and see if that is one he is referring to or if he has other sources of information/data.

Big deal, Mexican-Americans were only about 3 % of the population, then, and many were Mexican nationals serving in exchange for citizenship. Any achievment is Affirmative Action based.

I'm not surprised. General Douglas MacArthur drafted so-called pachucos for his Pacific campaign because he was so impressed by their bravery in battle. Mexican-Americans were also highly decorated for combat duty in Vietnam.
