My wife developed schizophrenia 14 years ago, and I had to have her commited as she became a threat to herself and our son. It was a horrific experience for her, and she escaped for and disappeared for one year. Good news is that she resurfaced and went back to Germany where she is from and received treatment there that seems to have worked.

I haven't been (and I feel lucky because of that!) & I hope I won't be as long as possible, not only because I don't want to be sick ,but also because of condition of hospitals here and doctors' attitude toward ppl. of course I'm takinga general view, because there are some who are nice, good, caring and stuff.
to talk about others it was my grandfather, who died of cancer and my dad who has hypertension and one day it was that high that we had to stay at the hosp for a few days for treatement - conclusion? bad conditions, terrible food (if you wanna loose weight go to hospital!!), not very nice care (generally)

committed as in psych ward? know somebody, and she practically went crazy from the lack of human contact (she wasn't by her friends), but it helped her to start battling her suicidal tendencies. Committed as in for physical treatment? Depends on what it is and who your doctor is and stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more specific there, it really does depend on who your doctor is and what you are being treated for.
