do you mean Pentium III (Pentium 3). Well, honestly I can't tell you. Pentium 3 has a (very) wide array of models, and those wide array of model ranged from a very slow to a very decent one.

Ask him what is the pentium Hz rating. If it's any lower than 1 Mhz, it's not a very fast laptop. 1Mhz to 2 Mhz would be decent, and any higher than that is superior ones, that you might not need unless you have a very high need of computing power (like if you're a graphic designer, or an architect).

If you're planning to use it only as for MS Office use, 1 to 2Mhz should be fast enough. If you're planning to use a heavy image program (e.g. Photoshop) often, you'll need one that have at least around 3Mhz.

NOTE: this Mhz spectrum I gave you is just roughly my opinion. Other people might have different opinion on how fast a Mhz rating to him,

Note: never fully trust Mhz rating, Pentium processor is known to have a tremendous Mhz rating, while AMD's is known to have lower Mhz rating for the same speed.

Note: if possible, find laptops that uses Pentium M (which stands for Mobile). Pentium M might be a bit pricey, but it has a good design for power saving, which is very essential for laptops.
And If you do buy PentiumM, don't compare the Mhz rating with a normal Pentium 3 or 4, since M has the same traits as AMD, in which it have a low Mhz rating for the same speed compared to 3 and 4

It is OK...for a laptop anyway.

Dudes..it's a laptop not a desktop.

Increase the RAM to 512 would be an idea.

Depends on what you are going to use it for. If it is just for word-processing and spreadsheets and for internet, it should be sufficient. Don't plan on downloading a lot of music and pictures and games.
