Moondog (aka Alan Freed) while working at a radio station in Cleveland introduced R&B to his caucasian audiance and then renamed it Rock & Roll.

Freed also held what is concidered to be his first rock concert the "Moondog Coronation Ball" spring of '52 in Cleveland... it was so well attended that they had to shut it down because they had filled the auditorium past the 8000 capacity (and allegedly had another 12,000 trying to get in)...
