Had a bad accident that affected his voice and has developed quite the drinking problem.

Last I heard he had regrouped a bit and was in a recent straight-to-DVD movie. I can't remember the name of it, but I saw a clip and he actually looked pretty good.
I LOVED that show and idolized Stringfellow Hawke. I was about the same age as the character at the time and thought he was so cool. I couldn't believe the series was dumped and came back in that horrible Canadian remake. They threw the whole premise for the show out the window and killed it.

I looked up the move. It's "Menace" (aka "White Boy") and was made in 2002.
I've read in places that he's retired and now living in Mississippi. Somehow, I have a hard time believing that, but I suppose it could be true.
