You can be "big" and "indie" at the same time; as the term "indie" is not necessarily a popularity marker of the band, but rather a catagorical reference to the record label the band is signed to -- an independent label, as oppposed to a major label (Wikipedia).

And yes, the Cold War Kids will be huge in 2006 according to Salon.com, Esquire Magazine, and Spin.com. They are also touring with Tapes 'n Tapes -- a fellow indie band with a substantial following.
