I am straight and believe gays should be allowed to marry. I am simply trying to understand this debate from the other side, because it just doesn't make sense to me.

The theory that gay marriage is wrong because it somehow threatens male-female marriage is a crock of shite. Tradition is no reason to continue a practice. To say that we should prohibit gays from marrying because we have not allowed it up til now and marriage has traditionally be between a man and a woman it no different that that standard answer your parents gave you when you asked why you could not eat your dessert first -- "because we say so." Makes no sense. It offers no logic. Guess what else is tradition -- traditionally we don't let jews play at our golf courses. And traditionally we don't let blacks marry whites (there were actually laws on the book in most states, so it went beyond tradition, it was the law). Traditionally, children slept on their stomaches, until the scientists told us that the chances of SIDS skyrocketed when an infant doesn't sleep on its back. So don't give me that tradition garbage. We don't continue doing things just because that how it has always been done. The american people deserve better than that -- we deserve to know how it benefits the overall society. The bottomline is that monogomy and marital committment is a major benefit to modern society, whether it is between opposite sexes or the same sexes.

Gay Marriage is wrong. It viloates the nature of life. Two Gay people can't produce life. It was ment between a man and a woman. Gay marriage represents a messed up society that is rebellious.

It a slap in Gods face-
I care if people don't follow the bible because the Bible is ment for our good and not harm. I have never been happier since being a Christian and untill you come to God you will never understand what I am talking about. When you are a Christian and receive Jesus you want others to expirience what Jesus can give and that ls Life, Love Peace and happiness.
If someone didn't share the bible with me I probably still would be a messed up person on the street. So that is why Christians take sharing Gods word seriously-

Being Gay is wrong and as I mentioned above, it violates the order God placed things. Look at Global Warming
we are ruining a beautiful God given enviroment for our own selfish needs. When you violate Gods order of life the consequences follow.

Well, as a person that grew up in the church but still doesn't understand most of the bible, i think i can help. i think the biggest problem here is calling the union a marriage. I personally believe that gay people should have the same rights as everyone else, but the christian people believe marriage to be a sacred union under god between man and wife. so calling a gay union marriage is like throwing a steak in a vegetarians face. If you call it something else like a union, but still give all the same rights that are apart of marriage, to my understanding, it would be a compromise everyone could agree on.

First of all we need to realize something; Marriage is not ours to change and make as we see fit. Marriage is an institute ordained by God, which was instituted from the beginning of time starting with Adam and Eve. Therefore we can not change marriage and say that it is okay for two men to marry or two women to marry because we would be out of order. Secondly everyone will have to make an account for their sins whether they believe so or not, we are exposing the fact that the bible disagrees with this lifestyle and the reason that the BIBLE is the best source on this matter is because the bible is God's word and it is true. (Whether you believe or not)

you say Gay marriage is wrong then what good can come off something that is from the beginning on the wrong track? Its ok if two men love each other, its their business, but why try and and legalize the relationship by getting married? marriage was made for two people of the opposite sex so that they could procreate and belong to each other and have a family. Gays can not reproduce so if everybody became gay then what will become of the human race? think about it.

Gay marriage is wrong, first because it violates the nature of mankind. God wants people to be safe & happy & feel truly loved. That is why He gave us His precious Word...so that we could understand why He loves us & what He expects from us in return. When people become what God Himself conciders an abomination...they distort God's intentions for this world. Gay people cannot procreate, therfore they must find other people's children to raise...if you examine history itself..whenever a society allowed gay relationships..the society would collapse in a rapid demise. It only makes sense that since God says love the sinner but hate the sin...that we should try our best to help them turn from the wickness & repent...thereby saving us as well as them from certain destruction.

My opinon is being gay is wrong but that is my opinion and I would never force my opinons on someone else. But as for following the bible I don't think anyone should have do feel like they have to do anything they don't want to. I get tired of all the bashing when it comes to us catholics not all of us are bible pushing freaks.

to be honest- i dont know the answer to this. i dont hink christians do either-- but i have a personal experience.

i go to high school on a college campus which was cool because i got to see a lot of good protests and a lot of dumb ones. every monday, hundreds and hundreds of christians on campus stood in a circle carying overly-used signs that read "its adam and eve, not adam and steve" and what not. this effected my high school because we are a school of the performing arts and so half the boys are gay. they would scream "GO TO HELL YOU HOMOS." "F*CKIN PERVETS" "ROT IN HELL SICK CREEPS" once i even heard "I hope you get aids."
youd look around and see gay people, straight people just bawling because no one could believe what they were seeing. it was terrible.

in show choir one day we had a debate on how a religon which is supposed to accept people for who they are, as long as they truly believe in god, could be so rude? how could they say such harsh things? how could they still call themselves holy?

as a class we concluded that the words of the bible have been misconstrued. people have taken a couple of unclear verses and forced them upon every human being. they protest as a way to justify their own sh*tty behavior, even though the way they were protesting was bad.

people need to f*ck off and let people live their lives. im tired of all these christians parading around "oh youre budhist? go to hell." "oh you are a lesbian? youre f*cking sick." "oh you had sex before you are married? youll never get into heaven." i think everyone is a little tired of hearing christianity is the only thing thats right and im tired of having this religion shoved down my throat. maybe people forgot about the 60s. peace and love haha. maybe people forgot religion is a personal experience, a private practice. i dont know. but i hope people start accepting people for who they are and not their sexual preference.

peace and love,
shelbi

Marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Millions of people have been married under that definition, you can't just change the definition, it would not be right to the people who married under the original definition.

If you don't believe that the Bible is the true word of God and that gay marriage is right, then there's nothing wrong with it in your point of view.
