I don't think that the ego is the root cause of all problems. That said, even if it is the cause of some problems, many people don't realize it. It takes wisdom and maturity to be able to admit fault and be humble. It takes some people longer than others to reach that point, and some never do. People may not realize how empowering it is to take responsibility for their own actions and become introspective and examine themselves objectively.

Our confidence comes from having an ego most of the time. And without that, well, we'd feel shitty about ourselves. And no one likes that. Be it the root of all problems, we all seem to put our feelings and worth above everything else.

because they think there right and nothing anyone else tells them will make them change there ways its how there born and yes it is the root of there problems and will be untill they start to change there ways
