Bars, clubs, coffee shops, concerts, pretty much any public place. Some would say avoid meeting people in bars, but, alcohol will help to ease your nerves and make it easier for you to talk to someone and meet new people, especially if you're shy to begin with. I met some of my good friends and my current boyfriend at the bar I go to, and I love every single one of them.

Got any real strong interests, or hobies that are not male or female dominated (like there are not that many men into knitting and not that many women into fishing - but some).. If so get into a group or groups that do stuff you're interested in. If you have a job, find out where some of those you might be able to stand being around in your business (etc.) hang out. Some places are very close and tough to become a part of and others much easier. For that reason, ater time in the New York City and Rochester, N.Y. areas, when I found myself in the sticks and the people going out of their way to treat me like I belonged (the way they treated most everyone else), when I had the opportunity to get a job someplace else, I didn't want to leave.
I used to have an very over weith male friend who was very alone and dispaired about loosing weight. I told him to joint Wt Watchers or a similar group (usually mostly women trying to better themselves. If guys take Yoga they'll be in the minority. I used to think that stuff was all ------- , but it's a good workour in a different way and very relaxing. When I was a kid everyone seemed to be phoney. Still too much of that going on. Be yourself.
Some of the very best people find those who are "real" just about irresistable. Why Johnny Cash had a 50 year creer and Willie Nelson became an "overnight success" after 20 years of trying (also why he's been a fixture for 30 years! I oce saw a girl in a resturant. My "big" ears got her name and where she worked. I called her job and left a message for her to call me - no reason, so she thought it was business. She was flattered and we went out and had a nice time. I was looking at a car in a Handicapped Space where I worked. It had hand controls. I was very interested, so looked up the owner. He gave me the keys to try it and we became friends on and off the job. About 2.5 years after I met him first, he introduced me to my wife. Be open. It only took me till my mid 40's to begain to relax that way. It's like pitching. If you don't throow the ball, no one is gonna hit it, but -------.

The local penitentiary of course! Yep, the only way to truly get to know the natives is to get yourself arrested. No major crimes, mind you! Just a nice little bit of purse-snatching, or perhaps a spot of indecent exposure and voila!!! -- you're in with your new crowd!

Have fun! And don't forget to bring some fluffy pink handcuffs of your own, just in case!
