Luggage for non-sentimental and for sentimental-I would give her some supplies to make a scrap book of her trip. Get a pretty fabric covered box and fill it with the stickers and fancy papers. Scissors that cut in different shapes. Toss in a good Camera(digital or otherwise)-film if non digital. Pens for writing in the scrap book. This way when she goes to different places she can take pics and make a book. I would also take a few pictures of yourself for her to add to the book.

Travelling around the world.

A small digital camera.

Sentimental: Make sure you take a picture of yourself as the first picture in the camera. She will turn on the camera and see you ...

Lonely Planet guide books of a few destinations she is going to.

Sentimental: Write a few love notes inside the pages for her to see as she travels...

Non-sentimental - palm pilot or similar. Somewhere to store all the info on her friends so she can stay in touch.

Sentimental - a St Christopher pendant. Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travellers. He will keep her safe. Alternatively a boomerang pendant - to make sure she comes back.

A very good swiss knife type of gift where you can find a penknife, pen, small screwdriver, bottle opener, nail file, scissors..you know.. the all-in-one type of swiss pocket knives or scissors.

They will come in handy as it will be useful for can openers too. At some point, she might need one of those 'things' inside there.

Oh.. please give her a compass too..in case she might get lost in a jungle or something. Tell her to have fun BUT be very careful to stay away from pubs and alley ways and red riding hood do not want to talk to 'bad wolves' too.

God Bless!!

at the same time as all else fails: present Card. it really is not any longer seen chilly and impersonal anymore. because you realize her, you've a sensible decision of the position she shops, etc. in case you realize what music she likes, get a CD. Or a movie, each little thing's on sale now, so that you may want to get something extremely tremendous for that budget. per chance in case you realize she likes videos on the theater, some chains promote action picture passes, you realize pre-paid admissions. good success.

If she's going to be in places where there's contaminated drinking water, a *good* portable water filter is a great gift if she doesn't already have one. A journal or nice sketch book is also a good gift. If she's going to very cold places, she might like some sort of very useful accessory, like good gloves or thermal socks.

a universal adaptor. The kind that comes in a little travel pouch and has a bunch of wall adaptors she can use in different countries. Will be useful to charge small things like curling iron, ipod, or whatever small electronic stuff she wants to go with.
