In a "normal love relationship" - not just friendship or other similar relations - yes, it is important. Otherwise, my partner will belong to the other categories of relations that do not include sex. How can my love relation be normal with my wife/mistress/girlfriend if we do not have sex? When we stop having sex, we become just friends, and the relation stops to be a "normal love relationship".
