George Washington, the man was very selfless and loyal to his country. Plus, if it weren't for him, we'd have a king for a ruler in the US, not a president.

Historically, there were several great presidents, but since you asked for my favorite, I would have to choose Bill Clinton. Albeit he may not have been the most Savoy person in his personal life, but he was a great leader.
He understood the term "global community" and that America is part of that community and must act with respect towards other countries, and not ride roughshod over the rest of the world.
He also had a compassionate understanding of domestic needs and offered innovative solutions that congress was too dumb to implement.
He was a fantastic public speaker and inspired people to be optimistic about the future.

Theodore Roosevelt! He was the coolest! He was a "Rough Rider"! He gave us National Parks (he had conservation on his agenda back in the 1900's). He came from "money" but didn't let that corrupt him or make him into a snob. He was about having fun and playing. . .he went camping and would bring foreign dignitaries for jaunts through the woods. To me, he was the last president to have any kind of passion!

Oh I don't know. Teddy Roosevelt ain't bad. Just the right amount of breaking big business to be of benefit to society w/o going too far. Then there's all the foriegn policy that is the reckless example of what we're doing now. Hell if I know, none of them were perfect & the world has changed so much over time its really hard to compare on equal footing.

I don't have a favorite, but here's a thought. Washington served two terms when he could have easily served a lot more. After his second term he voluntarily gave up power to someone else. At that time that was *huge*. Washington always had the good of the nation as his first priority.
