My husband and I have decided we are going to try to have a baby. I have been off BCPs for about 3 months now and although it is possible I'm pregnant now, as my period has not started, we want to know if there is anything we can do to increase the chances if I am not. This is just a place to toss around ideas. One thing I've heard of is taking Soy Isoflavons on days 5-9 of your cycle to kinda jump start ovulation and since my periods had been really erratic for a while before I started taking the BCPs I thought this might be good for us to try. Does anybody have any opinions on using Soy, or can anyone offer any other suggestions? Any help is appreciated!

sorry urban, your idea actually sounds very plausible and it's actually one of the best I've heard, but I work in a department store 3rd shift, so avoiding artificial light after dark is kind of impossible.

Soy has phytoestrogens in it. It could help make your cycles less erratic, but personally, I wouldn't use it. If you take enough to make a difference, there is a reasonably good chance it would suppress ovulation altogether (which is what the Pill does).
Instead of that, I would suggest you read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It has lots of information about how to increase your chances of conceiving...
And, by the way, it can take up to a year for your cycles to start up again after being on the Pill. You didn't say how long you were taking it, but keep in mind that your body hasn't been ovulating, having periods, or generally having cycles for that entire time. (Bleeding while on the Pill is withdrawal bleeding, *not* a period.) So it can take some time to get back in the habit.
Good luck!!

A woman with a normal cycle ovulates around day 14. You need to find out when you are ovulating, this is the only time you can get pregnant. It last 24 hours. A man's sperm takes 72 hours to mature. So don't over do it by trying to have sex everyday. He needs to rest at least a two before you ovulate.
If you've been on BCP a long time, it can sometimes take a little longer to get pregnant. But don't worry. Good things come to those who wait.

I agree with the pillow under the pelvis suggestion.
Any substantial diet variations, even if organic, should be pointed out to your doctor.
And I have an admittedly crazy idea to offer for you. Did you know that in primitive cultures, women's menstrual cycles will "match" each other and the moon's 28-day cycle? Have you thought about living without artificial light after dark? So that when it's night outside it is night. That might help start regular periods -- you need that regular period in order to get pregnant!
Good luck to both of you.

Before you start any alternative or herbal remedies check with your doctor to make sure those are safe for you. Many herbal remedies can mimic hormones naturally produced by the body and can do more harm than good. Also I would buy ovulation test kits to make sure you are ovulating, or use basal body thermometer. Use the BBT to chart your temps from day one of your cycle. By using the chart you will be able to find the day you ovulate. Also try keeping track of your cycle and using an ovulation/pregnancy calender to find your most fertile period.

I am no expert but believe me when god wants you to have a baby you will, first I will tell you my daughter wanted a baby for four years and cried cause she never used protection and after 31/2yrs. she got pregnant and 2-mth's later miscarried, she was in the navy so that broke her from even trying she thought she would never have a baby and then 2-mths., later she got pg., and then got married to the father and they now have an 8mth old baby boy. O.K. now I had 3 babies and everyone convinced me that I had enough so I had a tubal and exactly 2 yrs. to the date I had my fourth baby on my third babies b-day so my advise is just stop trying and let God handle it you just might get surprised, keep faith you never know what's in store God may land an unwanted baby in your lap a child doesn't have to come from you to be yours.

After your husband orgasms, keep your pelvic tilted for 20-30 minutes. A pillow under the hips really helps. This helps the semen stay in youl onger to increase the chance of pregnancy. Good luck :)

go to http://www.mymonthlycycles.com and put in your period info and it will calculate when you will be fertile and ovulating.
Keep track of your temp using a body basal therometer
Hold your legs up for 10 minutes after sex
tell your man to wear boxers not briefs
Take ovulation tests
Pray
Stop worrying and relax
Good luck
