take any classes in your high school that may pertain to drama..whether its dance or musical arts.. etc. when you graduate find out which colleges are best for you in the drama department..there are colleges that just pertain to acting and the whole "arts" check them out, and go from there.

OK, this is a serious answer. Learn to live with frustration as an occupational hazard. Not being able to handle that ends more careers than anything else. Understand that no one, even the biggest stars, escape it. Perserverance may be more important than even talent or training. Also, chances of working before you turn 18 are limited. Chances of working the minute you turn 18 are very good because you can still play younger and the people who were playing those roles got older.

Use the next two years to develop a strong technique - the ability to act when you don't feel like acting. Develop a sense of what kind of characters you will be cast as (not necessarily what you want to play). Most actors, even the famous ones, only play variations on an archetypal theme. Find people who will lovingly and honestly tell you how bad your performance was and who know how to fix it; a coach you trust can move you along very quickly. Mine took me from no credits, not even theatre credits to a recurring role on a network series in about 3 years (and I'm neither young nor pretty). The best way to get better in a hurry is to make as many mistakes as quickly as possible with the help of someone who knows how to fix them.

The difference in booking a role is very often the choices you make in interpreting the material, competency is a given. A coach with some experience and objectivity can come in handy here too. Read a lot - anything, but the richer the material, the better.

Realize that your standards need to be higher than the standards other people are willing to let you get away with. "Good enough" rarely books.

Really try to understand that no matter how much you love theatre, movies and acting it's a BUSINESS.

The BUSINESS part is something they DON'T teach in school.

Decide which coast you want to live on. They say, "Got to NY for training and LA for work" LA you'll need a car. How will you support yourself while you're paying your dues?

I'm not trying to discourage you, if you've got what it takes I couldn't anyway. Just go into it with your eyes open, it's a really crazy life in a very unforgiving business. Have a thick skin, don't let con artists take your dough and ALWAYS keep working. The PEOPLE you work with will get you more jobs than ANY class you take.

Good luck...

It depends on where you live.
Perhaps you can try out at auditions out of school. But only if you get yoru parent's permission and they are okay with you being an actress. It's hard to be an actress and make money. There are like millions of people trying and failing. Very few make it as you can see in celebrity magazines. A lot of them try to in, but very few do.
Try out for auditions. They'll be your best shot.

get involved in local theater. your town or a neighboring town should put on plays and such. audition audition audition, get your name out there dont be afraid to take risks in your carreer but always remeber to up hold your personal values. get a headshot taken and fax and send them to agencies near you. i know agents are seedy but they often have the scoop on where the good auditions are. if your feeling adventurous start and acting troupe with a few good friends. you guys can put on your own plays and movies and such and show them in your town or city. good luck
