It just seems like some people, like in particular on here tonight, are so wrapped up in what happened hundreds of years ago that they can't understand that they are their ideals worst enemy. They make a big deal out of race, which in turn makes people have a negative light on that race because they over analyze and complain and whine when they have more organizations, scholorships, schools and clubs that are for blacks only then any other race. What about the movies and music that is made by people in their own race that glorify greed, crime, and sex? Yet, they point the finger at the neighbors instead of fixing their own household. Are people who are into Black Power not any better then the KKK or Aryan Nations guy who is into White Power? I think they are both crazy and need some serious attitude adjustments.

Please note that I did say SOME, not all. Some of my better friends in life are black and they think the same thing.

A woman below said something about preserving her latino culture. That is BS! I am French and Dutch heritage. Don't they have their own unique culture different from others? Sure, but I still don't cry and whine because a part of that is gone. I live here now. And if you don't think that France and Holland have their own very different and unique cultures, you are dead wrong.

Amen. Reverse racism sucks. I know, I lived with it for 22 years. People think white people have it all - not in the South, they don't.

I understand what you are trying to say, and sometimes discrimination can be all in a persons mind and the way a person looks at situations. Yet racism still exists and we cant deny that. Its almost as if blacks and latinos are forced to conform to whites way of talking, thinking and acting so that they will not be discriminated against. I as a latina woman understand too well the challenge of trying to stay true to my culture and at the same time make a decent living and fit into the corporate world. Ignorance to me is unacceptable, living in a country that has so many opportunities there is no excuse to be dumb and uneducated. The people that you speak about that glorify greed, crime and sex are the ignorant people who have let others in their enviroment influence them into thinking that this is the way to be. When a person is surrounded by ignorance and grew up learning these behaviors it takes alot of guts to go against the norm and become a better person. They have a lack of moral support, a lack of stability because they are poor, and a lack of motivation because they see no one trying to make something of themselves. They resort to a get what you can while you can attitude because it might not be there tomorrow. They look for short term satisfaction instead of long term, steal, have lots of sex, and show off all that you have because you might not have it tomorrow. They dont like whites because they cant fit in with them. They have isolated themselves in their own culture by their music, words and actions. Black power should be turned into black empowerment. They need to stand up for themselves the way they did in the days of Martin Luther King when they struggled to get the word ****er out of peoples mouths instead of using it as a greeting.

You make some great points. The sooner the black community feels free to support education and gentility, the sooner we can all just get on with the business of living. No one owes any one a living or special privileges based on their ethnic origin or histories past mistakes. You know the old saying, "cream rises to the top"? I think that people of all races have levels of "cream" that leave some at the top, others in the middle, and the murky ones at the bottom. For the bottom feeders to criticize the others makes little or no sense. I suggest that the best course of action is to allow the bottom feeders the choice of remaining there or floating up to the top of their own accord. Some will. The others stay where they are because they like it there. It suits them and that is where they feel most comfortable. Quit trying to force those kind to be more than they have the capacity to be.

I agree. But there are deep rooted issues in the black community that is complex and will continue to rise in their communities. You are dealing with a group of people that at one time were told they were not human and were treated like animals. Not to try and recapture the moments of slavery, but the mind set has never over all left the community. You have many who are socialized into having a lesser standard in life because they dont feel they have the rights to a better life.. which in turn leaves someone staying within the realms of poverty never quite seeing their way out..

it sounds like you need to do a little more research on your topic before you go ranting about things you dont fully understand. there are so many dimensions to an issue like this, such as
adaquate public education, or the lack there of,
being a product of one's environment,
fear of the unknown,
reclaiming of the name,
narrow-mindedness,
ect., ect.
and i'm talking about every race, religion, and ethnic backround.
i suggest you research these things to gain a better understanding of why people tend to do the things they do, and try to look at things from another person point of view and life situation before you start throwing around blanket terms.
and remember, you must BE the change you wish to see in the world.

In principle, I agree. There are far too many people who think that being a minority means that you automatically aren't racist. The only way to stop racism is to stop ALL racism.
