walter johnson was the best of them, he pitched great even for some poor teams.
after that i would go with christy mathewson, followed by cy young.
i dont know much about spahn, i guess i would rank him behind the other three.
-also do u know of any good relieving pitchers-
mariano rivera is the greatest relief pitcher in the history of baseball.

Johnson, Young, Spahn, Mathewson.
Mathewson has been slightly (not much, but slightly) over-rated for a couple of reasons...
1) He played in New York
2) He died a rather heroic death... he was exposed to poison gas while serving in WWI, and the gas seared his lungs... he died a few years later, in 1925, but was in poor health for several years before that.
3) He was considered the epitome of sportsmanship, despite being extemely competitive.
Mathewson's honesty was so respected that umpires would reportedly sometimes ask for his help on a close play (this could very well have happened...with only one umpire, maybe two, working a game, as was often the case back then, umpires were often out of position to see a play. It would not have been unusual for a gentleman of that time to put the principle of honesty above that of team loyalty).
Bill James' ranking of pitchers (Historical Baseball Abstract) ranks pitchers in the following order
1) Walter Johnson
2) Lefty Grove
3) Grover Cleveland Alexander
4) Cy Young
5) Warren Spahn
6) Tom Seaver
7) Christy Mathewson
According to James, Mathewson was the 4th best pitcher of his generation beind Cy Young, Walter Johnson, and Alexander. Matty's W/L record is great, but he played for great teams. Matty had only one season (1905) in which he was the best pitcher in baseball, plus 3 other years (1908, 12, and 13) when he was deserving of the NL Cy Young award, but was not as valuable as the best A.L. pitcher.
James didn't think that one year as the best pitcher in baseball is sufficient cause to rank Mathewson as high as a lot of people have rated him. Kind of makes sense to me...

In my opinion the best pitcher of all time is Nolan Ryan. I'd have to say the best reliever was Dennis Eckersly but Rollie Fingers runs a close second.
