You cannot choose the sex of your baby. However, it *is* possible to increase the odds...

The only method with any scientific basis is the Shettles method (see sources section below). However, since it is only 75-90% effective, you should only use it if you will be thrilled with a baby of either sex. If you want the best chance of having a boy, read the book, not just the Web page or a short description.

What *won't* help is the "Chinese ovulation calendar". If you like guessing games, you may have fun with it, but it's about as accurate as flipping a coin.

And again, *don't* try any of the quickie shortcuts (like some of the above answers) that explain the method in a paragraph or two. It may work, but it may not. (And you *don't* have to get up at 4 am to determine when you are ovulating. In fact, waking up at 4 am will make it less likely that you'll get pregnant--you'll be too tired for sex!!) For more detailed information on how to determine ovulation, read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler.

I just gave this answer to someone who wants a girl and another who wants a boy!

There are a number of pre-conception gender selection methods in circulation, but none work all of the time.

The programs are not as simple as eating yams every day, but nutrition for both parents-to-be is one component, as is ovulation monitoring and after-sex positions.

You have to follow the program for about 3 months before conception to great a physical environment more hospitable to one gender or another. Two great book on the subject are called "Chasing the Gender Dream" by Jennifer Merrill Thompson and "How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby" by Landrum Shettles.

That said, why do you desperately need a girl? This kind of gender engineering is important for people who have or carry diseases, like Haemophilia, that endangers only boys, for example. Most people just love the children they're given with all their hearts.

Apparently the closer you have sex to the day of ovulation the better the chance of having a boy. So if you ovulate on the14th day, this is the day to have sex. This is supposed to be because the male sperm swim quicker than the females who swim slower. I have three boys and know they were conceived on the day of ovulation. If it is that important to you then you should pay to have the sperm separated.

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 5 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

Funny how I read this book AFTER having children! It's called something like "how to make a boy or a girl"
My sister had 3 girls, and desperately wanted a boy. I was lucky, I had boy-girl-boy-girl-boy... After reading one of these books, she finally got her boy. I never asked her for specifics...lol
"girl sperm" are actually heavier than "boy sperm" - take the cowgirl position. Destress your lives - men who have stressful jobs (airline pilots, etc) tend to make more girls.
There's really plenty of books out there - do a google search or go to amazon.com or ebay.com and you'll get them cheaper. I'll leave a website of one good one that I found.
Good luck!

I had a boy, this works. Have sex while extremely intoxicated, doggie style on a bathroom floor in a college dorm. But it must be the woman's restroom, on the second floor, around 3 A.M. Oh ya, the condom has to have a hole in it. Worked for me!

Women sperm live longer, but male sperm swim faster. Try having sex on the day that you're ovulating, or maybe the night before. The faster male sperm should get there sooner.

i believe there is a way to artificially inseminate you wife/girlfriend with only male sperm. The idea is using a special filter that only allows y carrying sperms through (Y carrying sperms are smaller than x carrying sperms). however it does cost money and it is not 100% guaranteed.

Hey, just go for it. You have a 50/50 chance. If you have a girl, put her up for adoption and adopt a boy.
