I think, based on the way you worded your question, the answer would be Solitaire, or perhaps Spider Solitaire. The others mentioned are, of course, very addictive, however not everyone has access to them (if they choose to not download them), but Solitaire and Spider Solitaire are installed with just about every version of Windows used by home users, which I think would give it the edge.

Silkroad mmorpg it is free on their cite i have been playing it for 2 months it is a bata but it is great
it is a game set in the time of the silk road history setting where you play a chinese character or and Oni and fight your way down the Silkroad

World of Warcraft, I don't even own it or play it, but I am addicted. The free one for me is Wolfenstein: The Enemy territory. its free and can be played on the internet. My friend is addcited to Starcraft.

I think GTA is really addictive, since you can just run around freely offing people. It's strangely mesmerizing.

as an avid gamer, and a world of warcrack addict, I am going to have to say, solitair...comon you know EVERYONE plays it or has played it and beaten it more then 10 times...yeah don't try to deny it.
