We had a similar problem and when the Skyman came to install rather than have cables running around the edges of carpets from the phone point to the TV he just ran a cable around the outside of the house (fastened to the eaves) which connected from the Phone line at the front of the house .Then he drilled through the wall (neatly) behind the TV and brought the cable through and plugged it through into the TV.In their paperwork which they provide before they install the Sky it does say they only run phone cable for a limited distance after which you might get charged, but he never charged us. It's worth enquiring about before you start going to the DIY and getting loads of extension cables etc which you will end up tacking all through the INSIDE of your house. By the way, you DO need your phone line to be connected to Sky for at least one year and they check from time to time that you still have it connected (it shows up on their computer ) If they find you have disconnected it they charge you for the full installation !

There is ALWAYS a way. If you run wires, split off the main box in your basement or wherever it is, you can run a feed to your room through the attic, walls (more difficult) or wherever you can get a relatively clean run to that room and put a new jack/socket in that room. Ask a "cable guy" or "phone guy" or "electrician" to look at the way your place is set up. These guys (I'm an electrician) know how to and where to run cables/wires etc. I don't know if there is a possibility of hooking up a wireless transceiver for this "sky tv" but you should find out. Is there a "dish?" If so, perhaps the dish can be moved so a shorter run can be made thus allowing you to come through the wall into that room directly.

EASY, all you need to do is get a Phone extension line/socket (available from any hardware store/ DIY shop) and run it between the two rooms.
A phone line can EASILY be installed by anyone who can read and follow instructions as most sockets come with FULL instructions on how they need to be installed.
You can do it one of Two Ways Buy the socket and cable seperately, and follow the wiring instructions or buy an all in one phone extension line and socket that simply plugs in.
in either case you are advised to buy cable clips and that hammer in to your walls (so you don't trip on the cable), the clips should be placed idealy 1 clip every 12 to 14 inches approximately. you may be able to get away with increasing this distance to 24inch between clips but the greater the distance the more likely the cable is to become dislogedor moved when cleaning.
you can always call your phone company and request they install a line but this will in most cases be a very costly experiance and they may not be able to get to do the work for a few days to a few weeks.
if you can install the line yourself it will take you about 5to 10 minutes maximum to wire a socket and depending on the distance upto 1 minute per foot of line to be installed. it should take you less time than this, provided you have wire cutters and strippers, a screwdriver to open and install the socket, a drill to drill your wall if you are happy for a surface mounted socket, and if you are going to drill the wall to install the socket (you could always use strong double sided sticky pads) then it's VITAL to use a pipe and stud detector to help you seat your socket properly and so you do it safely and not drill through a gas or water pipe or an electrical cable.

good luck with the install.

Don't need to be connected to the phone socket, unless you want to do things on-line (watch Box-office, Gamestar etc). As long as the satellite cable is connected, you should be OK. You can also get a gadget that run's a cable to you video/TV and you can watch Sky on that TV and control it as well. (It's called an "TV Link" and costs £15). You can keep the sky box near the phone and connect to the box from a different room - just connect via a coax (TV Arial) cable.

no you cant watch 2 different programmes unless you have 2 sky boxes. the magic eye is only for being able to change the cahnnel in 2 different rooms... but the programme would be the same on both tv's by a sky box and get sky e.t.c then by another one (maybe off ebay for cheap) because you only need 1 subscription

Of course you can. They run a wire from the phone socket to wherever you want the Skybox. My phone socket is in the hall!
