"Massage extras:

A few extras can make your massage even more luxurious. Have everything ready before you start so you don't have to break the rhythm:

Scented oils will help hands glide over your skin, and leave it soft and smooth. The fragrence of the oil will add to the atmosphere, making each oxxasion special.

Try rubbing feathers, fabric and other soft-textured materials against the skin to leave it tingling

Cover any exposed skin with some warm fluffy towels so you don't get cold

Use spinal rolls for firm, smooth couter pressure

Gently brushing your hair with light strokes or a soft bristle hairbrush can be very relaxing.

Having a massage from your partner, or giving yourself one, is a wonderful way to relax and unwind. Massage stimulates the nerve endings in your skin, improves your circulation, and soothes tired muscles, giving you a sense of peace and well-being.

Soothing youch:
Use some good-quality massage oil (one with a vegetable oil base) to smooth your skin and make your massage more pleasurable. To create a comfortable, relaxing atsmophere, dim the lights, put on some soft music, and put pillows or cushions around and underneath yourself. Later on in your pregnancy, you may find it's more comfortable to lie on your side supported by pillows, or to sit astride in a chair.

You can massage most parts of your body, apart from your back, quite effectively yourself. Using the palsm and fingers of one hand, work clockwise around each breast, stroking the base towars your nipple; gentle knead your nipples between your fingers and thumb. Massage your abdomen, hips and thighs with the palms of your hands, using smooth, circular movements.

If any one else is giving you a massage, make sure that their hands are warm before startng and that they've taken off any rings, bracelets or watches. When you're both comfortable, take a few deep breaths to help you relax. It's best for the masseur to begin massaging your gently. The pressure can gradually be increased if it's comfortable for you, bt always keep the movements slow and gentle.

Circling: Using the palms of both hands at once, make circling strokes in the same direction away from the spine. Lighten the pressure when massaging over the abdomen and breasts.

Effleurage: Make light, feathery, circular movements with the fingertips as though ticking the skin. This can be done all over the abdomen during pregnancy.

Gliding: Place the palms of both hands on either side of the lower back, with the fingers poiting to your head. Push the hands up to the shoulders, without exerting body weight on to the hands. Slowly glide the hands down the sides of the body back to the starting point.

Self massage:
Soothe your forehead: Cover your face with your hands. Place your fingertips on your forehead and rest the heels of your hands on your chin. After a few seconds, draw your hands towards your ears.

Tone your chin; Stimulate the blood circulation under your chin, with brisk movements. Using the backs of both hands, gently slap upwards with one after another.

Firm your neck: Make gentle pinching movements around your jawbone. Softly sqyeeze the skin between your thumb and the knuckles of your index finger. Be careful not to drag your skin.

Massage by a partner
Forehead massage: Using your fingertips, make tiny circular movements all over her forhead, working from one side to the other and then back again.

Tension soother: Soothe tension with this gentle movement. Place your hands on her forehead so that your fingertips just meet in the middle and hold lightly. Press gently, then release and hold lightly again before lifting your hands away.

Back massage: The extra weight your partner's carrying in front can cause strain. Gently massaging her lower back can help to ease any discomfort.

Essential Oils:
Using aromatic oils in your massage can help you feel relaxed and refreshed. Their scents also help conjure up wonderful images.

These oils are distilled from flowers, trees, and herbs, and are said to have healing qualities. For example, lavender oil relieves headaches and insomnia. There are some essential oils that shouldn't be used in pregnancy, so always check with an experienced aromatherapist before using anything. Blend the oil with a carrier oil such as almond or olive before applying it to your skin. "

A note from me - Don't forget the feet!

Well before you become an OB, you may consider doing a doula course to learn about birth, how to support a woman in labour and to take care of her afterwards. The doula course also focuses on massage. A doula is a traditional birth attendant whose role is to support the woman and advocate for her during labour.

I have never known an OB GYN to massage a pregnant woman no matter how uncomfortable she is. They usually leave that to husbands, doulas and midwives.

I would talk to an obgyn first, but one thing I know when I was pregnant they told me to be very careful of the amount of pressure you use when massaging legs because pregnant women are at high risk for blood clots.

My OBGYN never massaged me and I'm on my 3rd pregnancy! But my local spa massaged somewhere on my ankles when I was 38 weeks with my second child they claimed would send me into labor.(It took another 2 days)

Well you can't do much damage if you stick to the feet. During the last month when we put on the extra weight, a good foot massage is priceless.

don't come on here and ask questions like that you have to do a course and stuff to learn that if u just learn things that u have heard from other people than u could do alot of damage to both the woman and her unborn child.
