Gotta go oldschool: Buzzcocks, Clash, Ramones, Dead Kennedys and the like.
As far as alternative bands...Razorlight, Muse, Keane, Snow Patrol, and the Zutons.
Many more for each category, but those are the ones I like. :)

I like a lot of 90s alternative like Gin Blossoms, Third Eye Blind, Smashing Pumpkins, Filter, etc... I also am a big fan of The Presidents of the United States of America. Not really into Punk Rock so I am no help there.
