All right, I must admit you have made your point very clear!
Likewise your wording is quite sound.
Perhaps we must give it a second thought and
Elaborate the other way around as well
Really do you want to get it right?

It was not the American people that said that. Bruce Arena made that childish and inaccurate comment and he has many things outside that he should be regretting. Such as how he let his players and their supporters down in the most disrespectful way.
Soccer_mind..just keep copy and pasting that answer. Didn't you just post that 1 question back..How original.
To the above poster who said he did not know what making up the numbers meant, Arena was implying that Australia were not good enough and were only given a place to fill the required numbers for the cup and the draw.
It's all come and gone and the cup goes on. Good Luck to the Socceroo's, they have earned their place with hard fought results.

The Americans should feel ashame of not winning even one game in the first round before they were out. Whereas the Aussies did well. Just imagine the two nations with the same mother tongue had another soccer game - guess which team will win? I am for the Aussies. Yes, the Americans should regret about that - for sure.

I don't think the "Americans" can care less about what we said, it's apparently the people who wait to make a cheap shot at the US who care. We lost, so we moved on, but it seems like alot of people can't stop bringing it up as if it makes you feel superior or something. I'm sure if we actually cared alot about Soccer as the rest of the world we'd probably manage to do alot better, however we have other sports we invest more time and energy on. And yes we did win a game, it even says it on the site, why not check it out next time you say that stuff.

I Think the American`s should regret saying that. I watched Australia`s match against Croatia and most of the time I thought the Socceroo`s were playing against 12, then their was the rugby tackle, the three yellow card incident and to cap it off the goal referee/extra Croatian player Graham Poll refused to count. The socceroo`s played a very good game it`s a shame they did not get the result they deserved in my opinion

I said that??? I must've been drunk although I haven't touched alcohol since 1992 and Australia wasn't in the 1990 world cup....
Of course another possibility is that one American said that, not all 280 million of us, and the question would be better asked to him. This is the first I've heard of it, and I don't even know what "make up the numbers" is supposed to mean.
And anyway, aren't you people supposed to have no worries, mate? So why stress over someone talking smack?

I think JaxxSax18 hit the nail on the head. While trying to live up to their (flattering) World Ranking of 5 (Yes ahead of Italy (#13), France (#8) AND Germany (#19), the US forgot that you actually have to play good football to make the last 16 - As Australia have done.
The Aussies face Italy, who were banished in the 2nd round 4 years ago by Hiddink and his Asian warriors (KOR). That scar still appears on the banner of the Azzurri and Australia may sneak past them to face either SWI (#35) or UKR (#45) in the Qtr Finals. Having beaten JAP (#18), drawing with CRO (#23) and a respectable loss to BRA (#1) The Socceroos may face a Semi Final vs host nation, Germany IN THE SEMI FINAL.
So do USA regret their comments. WHO CARES!!!
Winners are grinners and losers can 'please themselves'.
All Australia is grinning right now!!!!
I DO hope the USA can 'please themselves' as their supporters are still waiting to be pleased!!!

Dreamers like ---> Roeys at the Pub <--- easily forgot that "The Azzurri are still scarred by Guus Hiddink and his Asian Warriors 4 years ago" the game was a HUGE SCANDAL with the referee Byron MORENO (radiated right after to referee soccer again).
So, because of the bias incompetency of the individual, I am not even wasting more time to comment about the game: Monday will discuss again.

First of all, most Americans do not care about soccer or the World Cup. Second, I don't know of any Americans who said that. Third, Australia is so insignificant, that it is not even in our thoughts. Is that OK?

Nopes they don't..i'm defintely sure that they do not regret saying that and for your information if u really did see the match because Italy and US , they had won the italians. I'm not saying Italians are not good enough..what i'm trying to point out here is that US had actually won a match....Thanks to the "great" refree we drew to the italians..You could even ask the italian fans if they were happy with the refree and his stupid decisions..fancy sending 3 players off...thats CRAP.....The REFREE had gone MAD...and the US managed to play great even with players like del piero, cannavaro in their opponent...So the US they deserve to go in the second round too...So u got ur answer??? it is a big "NO they don't regret"

They should regret it. I believe the US coach (Arena) got way too arrogant. It came back to bite him in the behind.
Football is a funny game where the margin between success and failure is so small. Australia are a good team, who can beat anyone on their day. They are not a super-power, but they should be treated with respect.
