Like what df747 says, the Windows Vista is coming out, XP will be second grade soon, not only that, but Intel are planning to come out with Intel Centrino Quadruple also. So the main reason for the newer low prices are because of major changes to the most popular operating system and processor. Demand will be switched for these new systems.

This is true, I purchased a laptop from dell back in December for about 500 that included shipping and tax. You should check out the shopping pages for companies such as dell, apple, or hp, they offer discounts that will lower the price of the laptop even more. i was able to get a discount because I am a student, I work for my state, and I am a teacher, so 3 discounts all together. Or if you work ask your job if they have an employee purchasing plan at any retailer or manufacturer also.

The reason it's going down is because Micrsofts new operaiting system is comeing out soon (Windows Vista) and Windows XP will become obsulete, so I would wait until Windows Vista comes out on all computers.

The price of laptops depends upon the region/country you are in. As such, in the electronics industry, the price comes down gradually even though there may not be any big surprises.

It's always supply versus demand! If you can wait, do so. They will be cheaper at a later date
and the technology will be better.
