This is my 3rd child but the first one I was induced after he was a week late, and then with my daughter I lost the mucus plug and had her 8 hrs. later. This one I am to a 4 but cervix is still 50% thick. Just wondering if anyone has been through this before. And if so how long before you went into labor??

Well, I did go to the hospital about midnight the other night having contractions every 5 minutes. They were getting painful so I was originally a 3 and then progressed to a 4 but my cervix was still too thick and then my contractions started getting further apart and so they decided to send me home.

Unfortunately you could go for weeks like this. I had a friend that was the same way for 3 weeks.

When I had my first baby, I was only dialated to 1 and not effaced at all. I started having contractions every 3-5 minutes so I went to the hospital then they went to 15 minutes.
The Dr. kept me for observation because I was 7 days late and I ended up having my daughter 6 hours later.

So, even though 50% doesn't seem like much, you could progress very quickly and go anytime.

Good Luck!

I had the same thing happen to me. I was diluted to a 4 and my contractions would come and go. These are called Braxton-Hicks Contractions and are early stages of labor. You can be in early labor anywhere from 24 hours to 1 week. My doctor told me this and kept sending me home. Several days later I delivered a healthy boy! Same thing happened during my second preg. It's a normal thing.

I haven't had this happen before, but I must say I am shocked you aren't in labor yet! At 4 cm, you could have an epidural if you were in labor! Maybe you will go into labor soon.

I would consider it a blessing to be so dilated and not in pain!

Best wishes to you on you impending arrival.

it sucks. i was dilated to 2 from 37 wks until 43 weeks when they finally had to pull the plug :-( then i got stuck with some weird med to make my cervix thin out. finally had the baby at two days shy of 44 wks (yes, i knew my exact conception date, & why they let me go so long is beyond me :-( )

My cervix didn't dilate at all until I got induced at 39weeks and 4 days.
