cos they're special... its really to identify who they are - a goalkeeper. its so players dont get confused and so the refs dont get confused either, which keeps them more distinguished from the rest of their teammates. i used to play soccer myself and one thing i learnt from that experience is so that they are able to tell them apart from the rest. u know that they're the goalie that way.

It's Law 4 of the "Laws of the Game" concerning players' equipment that the goalkeeper must wear clothing distinguishing him from the other players and from the referee.

Well I don't know a lot about soccer but I would guess that because they are the only ones allowed to handle the ball inside the box in front of the goal they have to be more distinguishable to the refs. I think most anyone else who isn't a goaltender will get a yellow card for handballs.

Isn't it obvious?? it's defintely to seperate them from the other 10 men who would be running around the field...the goalkeeper needs a seperate jersey to distinguish themselves that they are the goalies and not just another player.

to distinguish them from the rest of the team b/c when there are several players together at the goal, only the goalkeeper can pick up the ball with his hands and he must be distinguished from the rest!! ^_^

To set them appart from the other players...IF they are the same colors the ref can confuse them with a player and he can call a hand ball by mistake...also.....any player can take advantege of it and use his hands to stop a goal.

I'm still trying to figure out why they wear those big fat mickey mouse hand gloves for stopping or catching a ball that is moving far less faster than a softball. Kinda queer if you ask me.

So that team members will not confuse him/her with a player and kick the ball to his side, and possibly into their own goal.
