Everyone included me, thought my neighbor was German, and today, I got to know he is actually Austrian...Does anyone can tell me, without being rude or desrespectfull, why he wanted us thinking he was German?
PS: This question would be better answer for someone whom is austrian, or german.

He told you that he was German or you concluded.If You concluded and neighbors because Austria speak German and are created from German decent and culture same like France and Belgium. If he told you that he was German maybe because he didn't want to be ask stupid questions by Americans where is that ? and Germany more known by Americans and see as one of best economic powers and in the World country and so he didn't batter to correct . I'm not rude:) sorry for spelling.
Many people think same think about me I have no problem when Americans think that are I am one of the better European Nations in the World then mine own.

Because Austrians and Germans are the same people. Some invisible line on a map doesn't separate blood.

Well, that's his personal affair, why should it matter to you?
Mayhaps, he has never directly claimed to be German, you and the others just assumed that he was German based on the way he spoke and his lifestyle? Hitler was Austrian too! And once upon a time, there was a lot of overlap between the territories of these two countries.

Did he actually say he was German or just because his Austrian Accent sounds like a German Accent everybody assumed????

austria borders germany. their culture is practically the same! austrians speak german!
