This is not my usual job but occasionally I am hired to design costumes for films.
They are remaking the film about the famous "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and sticking to the facts this time. The TRUE story. We start shooting in March in Nova Scotia.

It is starring Robert Duvall.
I have had no problems whatsoever, researching the period for the clothing and fabrics(textiles) of circa 1750-1760.

I'm still on my computer struggling with the under garments a little but THAT is not what has stumped me.

ANYONE, out there have a clue as to where I can find artwork or portraits of noblmen in Nova Scotia in the 18th century?

I need to know what they wore. How did they look?
I thought THAT would be the easiest. HAH!

I swear, I can't locate ONE depiction of what Gabriel Lajeunesse would have been wearing.

He was the best dressed young man around. He didn't dress like the farmers in the village where Evangeline and he lived.

Help? Please?

You can either visit or write to the Nova Scotia Museum as they would have photos and protraits of the time period from locals.

Since I studied art in college, I can give you a pretty good lead. I would suggest going to your local library and looking up art from the 18th Century. You'll be sure to find numerous paintings of people in that era. Narrowing it down to Nova Scotia might be more difficult, but you'll have a great start! Good luck!

Your local library should have books on the subject. You may also find this website helpful:
