If it is "built in" there is a switch on the case of your laptop. When the switch is "on" an amber light will glow. Then you'll be able to hook into your network at home or a "WiFi" in a hotel, airport, or coffee shop. Go to "network connections" in control panel and tic on "wireless network connections" and then tic the "view wireless networks" and a list of available wireless networks will appear. Pick your network at home or if want a "WiFi" choose it. If your network at home has a WEP, you will have to enter your pass-code to enable the laptop to hookup to your home network. The 802.11 b/g part simply means that the adapter will receive router signals from a 802.11b (11Mbps) router or a 802.11g (54Mbps)router.
