If you're looking for books, there are many series. For Graphic novels the big sellers are Naruto, Shaman King, for that age.
They also sell DVD's for Naruto, right now these are all subtitled for they have not been released yet. You can buy the 1st two Naruto's on DVD which are in English. This could be something to buy him and then he can add to collect them all.
You can pick up the magazine Shonen Jump which tells a little of each manga and anime story and what is available from where.(Maybe even a subscription to this magazine would be a great gift, because different months they have free cards and specials not sold anywhere else, he would be able to keep up with what is coming out and read excerpts from many graphic novels before they are even published. All ages even adults read this and find it a must for knowing about anime and manga.) Plus they have all the companies who carry all the different series and prices. I have found many new and different products from picking up a copy and buying gifts for my family from here. Then you know they are not knock offs, but the real thing. If you live near San Francisco, in Japantown you can buy everything related to both from the stores at a much cheaper price than in other stores. Plus they have many collector pieces.

Uzumaki Naruto. That **** is really funny. It can also teach kids value in its own way that many other manga cannot.
