you CAN wash it - but drying it is the tricky part.
Many home clothes dryers aren't big enough to let the material move around as much as it needs to in the dryer. if it doesn't dry enoug, it can mildew from the inside out. then you just have to throw it away.
Taking it to the Laundromat is safer.

You can wash it in your washing machine, no harm will be done to it, at least nothing happened to mine. Some arent made of real good materials though so be careful with how you get it dry again. puting it in the dryer might do something to it. But then again leaving it out to dry takes a real long time. Good luck with your sleepin bag

Unless you have a washer with a really big tub it might be a better idea to take it to the laundry mat. It might be a good idea to hang it up to dry after it is washed. A tumble dryer can mess up the insulation.

I think as long as you use a washer machine that is big enough to fit a sleeping bag in, a laundry mat is probably not necessary.

I have 2 I can wash at home but I also have 2 that are just too big for my washing machine. Depends on how big your machine is. But I can fit them in my dryer

It's safe to put it in your washer, proabably, yeah, most are. But if it is REALLY big, make sure you don't stuff the washer that if you turned the water on it would come flying out. If that is the case, take it to the mat. GOOD LUCK!

depending on the size, I have a very large one, so I take it to the laundry mat and put it in one of the XX large machines. then I take it home and hang it out to dry. that way it doesn't take so much to dry it,

If you have a standard top loading washing machine at home you will need to take it to the laundromat.
