Let's say you're picking up some take-out from a place like PF Changs or California Pizza Kitchen. When you pay the bill there's a space for "tip". Do you tip the waitress who gave you the take-out food?

Yes. Maybe not as much as you would if you sat down and ate but that server had to put your order together and make sure you get everything you need for your dinner. I'm a bartender at an OnThe Border and a lot of the time I do the To go's as well. I take time from my guests to put the order together and I appreciate even a dollar or two. I make 2.13 an hour + tips.

Wow I'm amazed at the amount of no tipping for take out.

I do. I pick up take-out a lot and always give a dollar or two. I don't relate my tip to the amount of the bill in this case though, like I do when seated. My thinking behind the whole thing is that usually the person getting your order together and otherwise dealing with you is taking time away from waiting actual tables or tending bar. I know this isn't always the case but it seems to be more often than not. Plus, my husband is a blackjack dealer and I've worked for tips in a few different casino jobs and I'm working on the whole Karma situation.

Yes, but about 10%. When I am seated and served I tip 20%. Please remember that the server had to pack the food in the to-go containers. Also, by law in many states servers pay at least 8% of their sales as sales tax. If you don't tip, they still have to pay taxes on a tip that they did not receive. Resulting in servers not giving good service for take out customers. They will remember you!

Even though the cup is there, it's really not expected. Those waiters and waitresses get paid at a higher rate for doing take-out that night (usually). However, if they do something extraordinary, like throw in free stuff, or cater to special requests, I will.

I always do, but not as much as if they waited on me at a table. They still took my order, so I tip like 5-10% of the takeout bill.

It's always nice to tip, and you should always tip when you are sited and served, but i don't think you should have to tip if your getting take out, but if your a high roller and you got it like that it's cool to tip for take out servers got to get paid to.
