Thomas Jefferson made it quite clear why the former British colonies in the Americas revolted. It's a little document called the Declaration of Independence:

one was they wanted to be able to worship as they wanted without persecution, another was they wanted to say what they wanted politically without persecution. I dont know what the oters are but there's two
