There's the main area where you do all of your editing and layout design. Off to the left, you have the Outline/Slide view. To the right, you have your Task Pane. And below everything is your Notes area.

You can resize everything by floating your mouse at the border of any two areas and click and drag when your cursor becomes a two-headed arrow. You can also close the Outline/Slide view and the Task Pane if you don't need them. To bring them back, click on View-Normal and things should be back to the way they were before you closed out anything.

The link below goes into PowerPoint a bit deeper, showing off some if its capabilities in case you wanted to know in general if PowerPoint can do a specific thing you require.
