I remember learning in science class in high school, that if you hold it, it will burst in about 8 hours. By burst, I mean you will no longer be able to hold it, you will uncontrollably pee yourself. A bit of a suggestion?? Don't try it!! Holding it too long and too often can lead to many health problems.

I am POSITIVE that it can!
When I was 19 and was in labor with my daughter I had to push for about 4-5 hours.(It was a miracle they didn't do a c-section) Her head was preventing me from peeing. The next morning they realized I hadn't peed in 14 hours and after I had had my daughter they had given me a very slow I.V. drip as well. Well anyways...I felt like I had to pee so bad and kept trying and I couldn't go but I didn't tell anyone that I was having trouble going. They went to massage my uterus down and in horror realized that my bladder was the size of a medium sized cantalope and was larger than my uterus. They told me they were gonna "cath" me and I said "no way" so they told me "Okay smarty pants, you have 20 minutes to "go" and then we are gonna "cath" you" I went in the bathroom and tried to go, I could NOT go. I tried the running water trick, the pushing down on my bladder trick. Nothin' worked. I was in ssssooooooo much pain ! After two nurses had to practically hold me down they "cathed" me and my bladder filled their container to the top. I don't know how much it was but the container looked like the retangular insert from a baby wipe container. I kid you not! They told me (after I had thanked them profusely) that after a certain point your bladder can shut down and you can't go even if you want to! So I believe a bladder could burst for sure!
Hope this helps!
Sorry for the novel!

Not unless you have the strongest urethral muscles in history. Once the bladder gets to the point that the muscles around it are 'feeling the heat', there is only one exit, and that is going to give in before the rest of the organ is.

No, but it hurts like hell and you will become unable to hold it later on. It will stretch you bladder and you will have these funny looking "outpouchings) called bladder diverticula, which, in turn can contribute to chronic UTI (urinary tract infections). Pee when you can, if you can't, cut down on your fluid intake until you can.

No but I've heard that by not going to the bathroom as often as you should makes the badder wall weaker so you may have problems when you are older. I'm not sure that this is true but why take the chance. If you are able to use a washroom, use it.

Not that I know of but it is possible for your urine to back up into the ureters and back into your kidneys. This can cause major problems.
